 AeroPlastic |
| Tough, flexible ABS plastic sheeting. The .010" (0.25mm) AeroPlastic
applied with SIG Core Bond or Kwik-Bond, makes a durable foam wing skin that will withstand high impacts. Thicker sizes are
good for making instrument panels, landing gear parts and other scale detailing. May be heat molded and vacuum formed for
cowlings or wheel pants. AeroPlastic bonds to itself with acetone, butyrate dope thinner or MEK. Use a small amount of SIG-
MENT to glue AeroPlastic to balsa wood. Can be painted with Sig Supercoat Dope, epoxy paint or enamel. |

| NOTE: From the factory fliers about heat forming clear plastic
or AeroPlastic sheets. The molds for forming should be carved from balsa or other wood and finished with several coats of
fiberglass resin, sanded smooth. Parts requiring a large sheet need a holding frame for the plastic that can be put in an oven.
Use about 300°F (149°C) heat setting until the plastic sheet sags in the frame. Quickly remove and stretch over the mold.
Smaller parts can be made with strips of plastic, equipped with handles at each end. Heat the strip over an electric stove element
or bathroom heater until pliable, stretch down over the mold. It helps to have the mold mounted on a post smaller than the
bottom of the pattern so that the plastic can be pulled around the bottom edge as it is being stretched. |
